Spread over 5.5 acres in the heart of Munich's Old Town, the Viktualienmarkt is a bustling food market with 140 outlets and stalls selling fresh produce, flowers, meats, cheeses, baked goods and delicacies. It was established in 1807 when part of the original farmers' market on Marienplatz was moved here due to lack of space. It is organized into 7 sections – ✓fruit market, ✓Café Nymphenburg and the shops around Karl-Valentin-Brunnen, ✓the courtyard around Kartoffelbrunnen with potato dealers, Exoten Mueller and the market’s oldest stand – Bäckerliesl, ✓ Maypole and an excellent beer garden, ✓ butchers and fish mongers, ✓Ganserlmarkt, and ✓Petersbergl. Sample some of the local cuisine, get amazed by the variety of sausages, and spend the afternoon with a drink in the beer garden.
