Peterskirche (Munich), Munich

Constructed in the late 12thcentury on the site of a pre-Merovingian church atop Petersbergl, the St Peter's Church is the oldest church in Munich.

Constructed in the late 12thcentury on the site of a pre-Merovingian church atop Petersbergl, the St Peter's Church is the oldest church in Munich. Destroyed by the great fire of 1327, it was rebuilt in 1368 and the Renaissance steeple on the 91 metre tall spire of Alte Peter was added in the 17th century. It was again majorly damaged in World War II bombings, and rebuilt shortly after. Highlights of the interiors are the guilded high altar, 5 Gothic paintings by Jan Polack, ceiling frescoes, and relics of St Mundita.
