The oldest structures in the Mumbai archipelago - the 7th century Elephanta caves, and part of the Walkeshwar temple complex which date back to the Silhara dynasty (9th to 13th century AD) are in the south. The famous Trimurti of Shiva with 3 faces is one of the most important sculptures in the Elephanta complex, with a lot of associated Hindu symbolism. To reach here, take a ferry from the Gateway of India, which was built in 1911 to commemorate the visit of king George V and Queen Mary for the Darbar at Delhi.
