The Aquadukt Saint-Clément is a 14 kilometre long aqueduct that was completed in 1772 to transport water from the Saint Clement spring to the Bassin principal du Peyrou and Chateau d'eau in Montpellier. Water was further distributed from here to public taps and fountains such as the Fontaine des Trois Graces on Place de la Comedie, the Fontaine de Cybele on the Place Chabaneau, and the Fontaine des Licornes on Place de la Canourgue. Designed by Henri Pitot, and Jean Antoine Giral, the 800 metre masonry span across the Les Arceaux district has 2 levels of arcades, with the lower having a span of 9 metres, and the upper level having a span of 3 metres.
