It is known for its Gouden Bocht (Golden Bend), one of the most prestigious neighborhoods, lined with elegant double-wide mansions with classicist facades, stuccoed ceilings, and fine gardens.

Highlights along the canal include the oldest house in Amsterdam at no. 81, Huis van Bartolotti at no. 168-170, Stichting Collectie Van Noordwijk at no. 368 which is part of the Cromhout Huis designed by Vingboons at nos. 364-370, Het Grachtenhuis at no. 386, 17thcentury West India House which was the HQ of the Dutch West India Company at no. 466, De Neufville Huis at nos. 475-476, Kattenkabinet at no. 497, Huis met de Kolommen – the Mayor’s residence at no. 502, Museum Geelvinck at no. 518, Peter the Great’s temporary residence at no. 527, and Samuel Sarphati’s house at no. 598, and Museum Willet-Holthuysen at no. 605.
