Nieuwmarkt is a commercial square in the old part of Amsterdam, and a part of its Chinatown. It has the 15thcentury De Waag (weigh house) which has been variously used as a guildhall, museum, fire station and anatomical theatre. The lively square is surrounded by cafes and restaurants. On weekends, the farmers’ market set up here draws hordes of locals who come for freshly picked produce. You can also pick up antiques on weekends.
