Dominating the Marktplatz, the Dusseldorf City Hall is the seat of the city council and municipal administration.

Dominating the Marktplatz, the Dusseldorf City Hall is the seat of the city council and municipal administration. The complex comprises 3 buildings -

  • The Renaissance-style Altes Rathaus with a clock tower built in 1573 on the northern side of Marktplatz,
  • The Baroque Wilhelminischer Bau built in 1875, and
  • The Neo-Renaissance style Grupello House on the western side which was originally the residence of Gabriel de Grupello, the sculptor of the Johann Wilhelm equestrian statue. It is the Plenary Hall today.
There are free guided tours every Wednesday at 3pm.
