The Victoria Street Market sounds like a relic of South Africa's British era, but is in fact Durban's ethnic Indian market. Located on the corner of Queen and Victoria Streets, the market was first opened in the 1870s by the large Indian community, and has since then grown to over 170 stalls selling all things Indian and African. There are racks of aromatic spices, silk saris, scarves, incense, traditional jewellery, beaded and carved curios, Asian ceramics and even cheap Chinese products. Grey Street, now officially Dr Yusuf Dadoo Street, is lined with antique buildings in typical Indian architectural styles, housing an array of fabric shops.
