Les Halles is a 19th century covered market hall designed by Gustave Eiffel and completed by Clément Weinberger. Built on the site of the former Dominican convent of the Jacobins, the ironwork and glass structure has 4 pavilions set up around 2 main crosswalks lined with almost 250 outlets. The large arches are adorned with animal and symbolic motifs related to the market such as deer heads, wild boar, game and poultry, fish, Ceres – the Roman goddess of harvest, and Hermes - the god of trade and commerce. The market is operational in the mornings from Tuesday through Saturday, and offers a variety of fresh produce, meats, candies, cheeses, and pastries. Explore the various stalls and same some of the gourmet offerings in an old world setting.
