The Chartreuse de la Sainte-Trinité de Champmol (Charterhouse of Saint Trinity of Champmol) was a Carthusian monastery that was established in 1383 by Duke Philip the Bold on the outskirts of Dijon as a dynastic burial place for the Valois Dukes of Burgundy. Extravagantly adorned with outstanding works of art, it was a highly admired monument that operated until it was ransacked in 1791 during the French Revolution. The complex comprises a church, ruins of the tower of the oratory, lower parts of Claus Sluter's Well of Moses with 6 life-size figures of Old Testament prophets who foretold the Messiah (Moses, Isaiah, Daniel, Zechariah, Jeremiah and David), the portal of the chapel that once contained the monumental tombs of the Dukes Philippe le Hardi and Jean Sans Peur, the Jacob Well, and the entrance portal. It houses a psychiatric hospital today.
