The sprawling Montazah complex built in 1892 by Abbas Hilmi Pasha has 2 palaces, 150 acres of royal gardens, and 5 beaches. The Austrian-style Salamlek Palace was Abbas Hilmi's hunting lodge and summer residence, and is now a luxury hotel. The larger Al-Haramlik Palace commissioned by King Fuad was built in 1932 in Turkish and Florentine style, and houses a museum on the history and art of the Muhammed Ali Dynasty.
