The Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa are counted as one of the 7 wonders of the Medieval Ages. Dating back to the 2nd century AD, the Greco-Roman necropolis has 3 levels of rock-cut halls and tunnels, featuring a mixture of Roman, Hellenistic, Pharaonic, Macedonian and ancient Egyptian decorative art. Explore the underground world of the Egyptian dead, and see the Hall of Caracalla where the bones of murdered Christian men were found, the triclinum which was the funeral banquet hall, the rotunda and the burial chamber with stone sacrophagi.
