The Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory showcases the history, art and culture of Northern Australia and its neighboring regions. Exhibits range from fossils and specimen to Aboriginal art, contemporary indigenous art, local rock art, and South-east Asian textiles and ceramics. The Cyclone Tracy exhibition traces the development of Darwin in the aftermath of the Category 4 cylone in 1974. Among the popular exhibits is the 5 m long taxidermied saltwater crocodile Sweetheart which was once infamous for attacking boats on the Finniss river.
